British Orthopaedic Association celebrates 100-year anniversary

Today, the British Orthopaedic Association celebrates its 100-year anniversary.
According to a press release, the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) was established in 1918 after World War I by 12 surgeons who wanted to help soldiers injured in combat. Today, the organization has more than 4,700 members.
According to the release, “British orthopedic surgeons are pioneers of ground-breaking technology. They were at the leading edge of developing hip and knee replacement procedures back in the 1960s, which are today commonplace throughout the world.” In the United Kingdom, there have been more than 150,000 procedures performed.
“At the BOA we are proud to be contributing to a trauma care system that is one of the best in the world, leading many aspects of research, and an educational system for surgeons which leads the way for other countries around the world,” Ananda Nanu, president of the BOA, said in the release. “All built on the determination and vision of 12 people who said we have to make a difference."
