VIDEO: Alignment, length and rotation are key in treatment of femoral shaft fractures

KOLOA, Hawaii – At Orthopedics Today Hawaii 2018, Frank A. Liporace, MD, shared his tips for the treatment of femoral shaft fractures. He said one thing to understand about the femur when treating shaft fractures with nails is the proximal, midshaft and distal zones are all important and do not to get misguided that the nail can do all the work.

“Get perfect reduction in terms of alignment, length and rotation. It is okay to use mini-open or even formal open approaches, as long as we are biologically friendly to achieve these goals,” he said.
