Penn Medicine orthopedic professor to receive bioengineering award

Louis J. Soslowsky, PhD, from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, is to receive the H.R. Lissner Medal from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Soslowsky is the dean of research integration and the founding director of the Penn Center for Musculoskeletal Disorders. According to a press release, he was selected to receive the award for his contributions to the understanding, prevention and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries to tendinous and ligamentous tissues. The medal is given to recognize achievement in the field of bioengineering. Soslowsky is considered an expert in orthopedic bioengineering and functional tissue engineering.

He has received various honors and awards from orthopedic societies and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed articles in professional journals. Soslowsky is scheduled to receive his award at the World Congress of Biomechanics in Dublin in the summer of 2018.
