The EBOT Exam is a prestigious qualification that is a valuable addition to your curriculum vitae. The exam has evolved in the last few years to make it more open and fair, which has been well received by all candidates.
The exam is open to certified specialists from Europe and trainees in their final year of training in a recognized European training scheme program, as well as non-European Union (EU) citizens working in an EU country.
The EBOT Interim Exam is an annual assessment for all European orthopaedic trainees. It gathers information at the European level handed over to both trainees and heads of training, regarding not only the performance of the different residents, but also detailed data on how they have been doing in the five different areas assessed at the final EBOT Exam.
The 2018 dates for both the interim and the final exam are as follows:
EBOT Interim Exam: Tuesday, 10 April 2018
The interim exam is open to all trainees in a recognized European training scheme program and all hospitals in Europe, subject to prior registration.
Hospitals must register for its trainees to be able to take part and trainees at a registered European hospital can register individually through a special link.

EBOT Final Exam:
- Written part/section I: Tuesday, 12 June 2018
The written part of the EBOT final exam is to be completed online and consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. The exam will be held in different examination centers in Europe. - Oral part/section II in English: Saturday and Sunday 6 October and 7 October 2018 in the United Kingdom
The oral examination consists of five sessions that last 30 minutes each and tests candidates in the subjects of spine, lower limb, upper limb, children’s orthopaedics and basic science related to orthopaedics. - Oral part/section II in Spanish: Saturday and Sunday 17 November and 18 November 2018 in Madrid
The oral examination will be held in Spanish for all Spanish-speaking trainees in their last year of training, which is subject to approval by the Spanish Orthopaedic and Trauma Society, SECOT.
Applicants need to be successful in section I to gain eligibility to proceed to section II.
All applications received by the closing date of 31 March 2018 will be screened for eligibility by the EBOT Examination Board. Candidates will be notified thereafter.
