VIDEO: Cervical osteoblastoma resection and posterior fusion

In this video from Open Operating Theatre, Yann Philippe Charles, MD, professor from the University Hospitals of Strasbourg, Civil Hospital in Strasbourg, France, discussed how to perform a posterior en bloc resection for a cervical osteoblastoma in a 27-year-old man.

The patient was placed in the supine position with a Mayfield clamp. A midline posterior approach was performed, and the paravertebral muscles were dissected from the posterior tumor mass. As the tumor was adherent to the C2 spinous process, the tumor en bloc resection was performed. Posterior fixation was performed with C2 isthmus screws and C4 lateral mass screws. A crosslink was inserted to achieve axial rotation stability.

This video is intended as a teaching tool to help surgeons prepare for surgery or they can use it as a refresher on the surgical technique and indications for this surgery.
