For each edition of the annual congress, the construction of a relevant and always up-to-date scientific program is key to delivering the best orthopaedic and traumatology knowledge at a high level. The whole setup of the sessions offered to participants is a complex process that involves all the EFORT member National Societies and starts 18 months before the meeting.
From beginning of November 2017, EFORT has made available an online platform to submit proposals for sessions to be included in the 2019 program. An official invitation for this submission has been sent to the EFORT National Member Societies, as well as to collaborating European Specialty Societies and to individual members of every EFORT committee. Moreover, the system will now be widely promoted through different communication channels to allow all members of the European orthopaedic and traumatology (O&T) community to suggest a particular topic they wish to be presented during the meeting.
Once all proposals have been compiled, the 25 topic advisors of the EFORT Science Committee will review each proposal and rank them according to their interest, their relevance to the existing O&T educational needs and their relationship to the congress’ main theme. This collaborative work lays the first brick of the scientific program by assembling 40% of the final content, the so-called “EFORT Invited Sessions.” These sessions follow one of the six EFORT pre-defined formats focusing on different learning objectives: Complex Case Discussion, Debate Forum, Evidence-Based Medicine Session, Instructional Lecture, Interactive Expert Exchange and Symposium. Each session accepted for the first draft is given an organization leader: a well-known European expert in the corresponding field who can frame the detailed content by suggesting the best presentations and speakers to fully cover the assigned topic.
As recently announced, the 20th EFORT Congress will be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 5 to 7 June 2019 and the proposal submission will run until Sunday, 17 December 2017; 23:59 CET.
The active participation through submission of scientific proposals is the most appropriate way to promote specific topics of individual interest within the next EFORT Congress. Create an account on our online platform and seize the opportunity to directly contribute to the core of the EFORT educational mission.
