EFORT

The EFORT Executive and Science Committees officially extend an invitation to members of the worldwide orthopaedics and traumatology community to attend the 20th Annual EFORT Congress in Lisbon, Portugal, from 5 to 7 June 2019.

Following the success of our previous congresses, EFORT aims to offer again a wide array of topics ranging from basic research to areas focused on clinical orthopaedic daily practice and treatments for traumatic injuries. As part of its mission, EFORT wishes to provide attendees with the state-of-the-art advances in all the sub-categories of orthopaedics and trauma (O&T). The scientific program will be enhanced with the addition of the 2019 Congress main theme to be developed around registry studies and medical devices. Many of the sessions to be presented will converge under this theme, which will allow EFORT to focus on medical device surveillance and the resulting arthroplasty outcomes to support improvements in patient care.

As EFORT aims to provide worthy scientific guidance via the presentation of well-established medical techniques, as well as highlight new evidence in emerging fields, the meeting becomes an important source of international knowledge and experience in the prevention and treatment of diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system that will be within your reach. Renowned experts will discuss their procedures, the rationale for their decisions, their successes and failures. The format of sessions will be directed to encourage interaction among participants and between attendees and faculty members who are part of the presenting panels. Several Instructional Lectures will be given by distinguished speakers from across Europe and will increase the delegates’ current knowledge in all kinds of topics. Other sessions will include Interactive Expert Exchange and Complex Case Discussion sessions where the audience’s input is key, as well as Debate Fora programs to efficiently address controversial topics. Finally, Evidence-Based Medicine sessions are essential to cover the most up-to-date scientific findings.

Traditionally, two renowned orthopaedic surgeons will deliver the Michael Freeman and Erwin Morscher Honorary Lectures at lunchtime on Thursday and Friday. We are also delighted that we will be joined at the 2019 Congress by a delegation from the Australian Orthopaedic Association, which will enhance the scientific content of the meeting with its outstanding O&T research and intense work in the field of registries.

Nevertheless, a successful scientific program implies there is direct involvement of all O&T experts in the core of the content. Your participation as an abstract submitter is therefore essential to compile the best headlines for the abstract-based sessions that form a major and important part of the meeting.

On top of this, the 2019 EFORT meeting will also be a great opportunity to visit the continent’s sunniest capital city. As Lisbon is built across several hills, almost every street offers a highpoint with incredible views down toward the river. A capital city, which has always represented the will of discovery by being the starting place of many historical expeditions, can presumably prove to be one of the best arrival points for any modern explorer. We hope the 2019 EFORT Congress destination will be as enjoyable and entertaining as it is expected to be educationally rewarding.
