ORLANDO, Fla. — At the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting, Matthew Smuck, MD, discussed a study that looked at the objective measurement of function before and after lumbar spinal stenosis decompression. He said that after 6 months, patients’ physical capacity improved after lumbar stenosis surgery; however, there was no change in their physical performance. He said physicians should suggest a course of rehabilitation to improve a patient’s habitual physical activity.
