VIDEO: Orthopedists should use multimodal pain medication early vs opioids for patients with musculoskeletal injuries

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — At the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Annual Meeting, William T. Obremskey, MD, discussed the opioid crisis in the United States and Canada. He said orthopedic surgeons need to use multimodal pain medication, when feasible, for pain management of musculoskeletal injuries rather than opiates. He said opiates should be used as a component of pain management and not as the only mechanism of pain control.
