K2M announces acquisition of exclusive license to patent portfolio of expandable spine implants
K2M Group Holdings Inc. announced its acquisition of the exclusive license to a portfolio that includes 17 issued and pending patents for expandable interbody technology, according to a company press release.
K2M also announced it expects to integrate its Lamella 3-D Titanium Technology into its new products developed with this intellectual property. The 3-D portfolio offers solutions to achieve spinal balance in complex, minimally invasive and degenerative spine procedures.
“We are excited to have obtained the exclusive rights to this intellectual property portfolio and look forward to integrating our 3-D printing technology with new expandable spinal devices as part of our effort to build a comprehensive portfolio of industry-leading, 3D-printed solutions to address the full range of spinal pathologies,” Eric Major, K2M president and chief executive officer, said in the release. “This strategic investment to enhance our intellectual property portfolio — coupled with our recent announcements around Mojave PL 3-D Expandable, Sahara AL Expandable, and our Balance ACS platform—are key milestones to drive our strategy to be the technology and market leader in the next generation of 3D-printed expendables.”
