VIDEO: Iorio discusses modifiable risk factors, infection rates after TJA
SAN DIEGO — At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Richard Iorio, MD, discussed modifiable risk factors for infection regarding total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Modifiable risk factors include, morbid obesity, smoking, infection status and diabetic status. He noted programs to address these five risk factors have decreased infection rates in high-risk patients from between 1.5% to 2% to less than 1%.
