SAN DIEGO —  Roy I. Davidovitch, MD, discussed how he and his colleagues established a multidisciplinary institutional program for same-day discharge in joint arthroplasty.  He said it is important to understand how to select patients who are candidates for an outpatient hip replacement procedure. Davidovitch said patients with modifiable comorbidities were candidates for outpatient surgery and noted surgeons need to educate patients so they are less anxious to leave the hospital.
