Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices announced it has initiated the consultation process with regional and local works councils to propose its intent to close the Ethicon “Kirkton” manufacturing site in Livingston, Scotland.

According to a company press release, the closing of the manufacturing site is part of a global restructuring effort Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices (JJMD) announced in January 2016. This closing could affect approximately 400 employees.

The JJMD global restructuring plan includes position eliminations of approximately 4% to 6% of the Medical Devices segment’s global workforce throughout 2016 and 2017. The goal of the restructuring effort is to strengthen the go-to-market model of the company, accelerate its pace of innovation, further prioritize key platforms and geographies, and streamline operations while keeping high-quality standards and company service. The Consumer Medical Devices businesses, Vision Care and Diabetes Care segments of the company are not impacted by these proposed actions.
