VIDEO: Single-stage total endolesional C2 spondylectomy performed for chordoma

In this video from Open Operating Theatre, Petr Suchomel MD, of Hospital of Liberec, Czech Republic, treats a patient with a cervical chordoma.

The video shows how the C3 vertebra and clivus are accessed and a C2-3 discectomy is performed. Anterior parts of the tumor and vertebra are microsurgically removed. A mesh cage filled with autologous bone graft and hydroxyapatite (HA) is used for the reconstruction and it is fixed with screws. Posteriorly, a C2 laminectomy is performed, the superior articular process C3 is completely removed, and a total C2 spondylectomy is performed with resection of the chordoma. The area is then reconstructed with mesh cages filled with HA and bone graft.

This video is a teaching tool to help surgeons prepare for surgery or they can use it as refresher on the surgical technique and indications for this surgery.
