Vertera Spine announces successful outcomes following use of PEEK fusion device

Vertera Spine announced the first successful early outcomes following the use of the Cohere cervical interbody fusion device, the company’s first device to feature its patented porous polyetheretherketone Scoria biomaterial technology.
According to a company press release, more than 400 Cohere devices have been implanted during anterior cervical fusion surgeries in the United States since the soft launch of the device in May. Cohere is reportedly the first clinically used device to be manufactured entirely out of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) and contain porosity. As the device has no metal, it reportedly allows for accurate visualization of the fusion site because it does not produce medical imaging artifacts.
The PEEK Scoria technology is reportedly backed by academic research performed at both Duke University and the Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience at Georgia Institute of Technology.
