Medtronic launches systems for minimally invasive spine fusion procedures

Medtronic plc announced the launch of the Pivox oblique lateral spinal system with lateral plate and the Divergence-L anterior/oblique lumbar fusion system.

According to a company press release, the Pivox oblique lateral spinal system with lateral plate is an interbody cage and plate designed for the oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) 25 procedure and can be used at one or two contiguous levels from L2 to S1 without further need for posterior fixation. The Divergence-L anterior/oblique lumbar fusion system is reportedly the first all-in-one plate/interbody system for the OLIF51 procedure and for the anterior lumbar interbody fusion procedure. The system has plates that can be used with an oblique or anterior approach. It also features a large footprint with many height and lordosis options for desired disc height and segmental lordosis.

“Our goal is to enable the best possible patient care, so we continue to innovate and evolve spine surgery to address unmet needs,” Doug King, senior vice president and president of Medtronic’s Spine Division, which is part of the Restorative Therapies Group at Medtronic, said in the release. “The OLIF procedures represent an evolution in lateral access, and we are pleased to see more surgeons undertaking this evolution in their approach.”
