At the International Society for Advancement of Spine Surgery Annual Meeting, Hee Kit Wong, MD, PhD, was named president of the society’s board of directors, according to a press release from the society.

“[International Society for Advancement of Spine Surgery] ISASS is a growing, global organization, with room to represent members from around the world,” Wong said in the release. “We must continue our efforts to advance the science and art of surgery and educate its practitioners in every country possible.”

Wong has been a member of ISASS since 2001 and served on the board of directors since 2010. He is also chairman of the Spine Section of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association, a board member of the Pacific Asia Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, as well as a board member of the Asia Pacific Cervical Spine Society.

According to the release, Wong is member of more than15 professional societies around the world and acts as an editor/reviewer for 10 academic journals.

“I would like to thank outgoing ISASS president, Gunnar Anderson, MD, PhD, for his service to the society — I am proud of what ISASS has accomplished under his leadership,” Wong said. “I am confident that he will continue [to] lend his talent and expertise to advance the profession and the society.”
