3M announces publication of compendium on patient warming systems

3M announced the publication of a research compendium that highlights the safety and effectiveness of the company’s Bair Hugger patient warming system.

“This compendium represents the largest body of evidence supporting patient warming, specifically the Bair Hugger system,” Michelle Stevens, MD, chief medical officer of 3M’s Infection Prevention Division. “Since its inception, the Bair Hugger system has been the gold standard in patient warming devices, and this expertly compiled evidence reaffirms the safety and effectiveness of this system.”

According to the release, the purpose of the compendium is to provide readers with research on the Bair Hugger system and its clinical benefits. The compendium includes more than 200 studies on surgeries, including hip and knee procedures, and features summaries from paper abstracts in which the Bair Hugger system was the subject of or used for clinical research, review articles, case studies and letters to the editor. It focuses on four major themes including hypothermia, infection control, cardiovascular surgery and orthopedic surgery. It is arranged in chronological order, with a detailed index, search functionality and scientific, peer-reviewed studies published between 1989 and 2016.
