In collaboration with the European Hip Society (EHS) and the European Knee Association (EKA), EFORT has organized a full-day course on key issues and hot topics in total hip and knee replacement. The course will run on Friday, 7 June in the Istanbul Congress Center during our 14th EFORT Congress. In a total of 24 sessions, European experts in lower limb joint replacement will present their knowledge in 15-minute slots, each followed by a 5-minute floor discussion. The aim of the course is to provide younger joint replacement specialists and more experienced senior consultants alike with an update on the latest in techniques and treatments.

A reduced fee of EUR 75 gives access to the course, and the 150-seat auditorium is nearly sold out only few weeks after registration opened. The Scientific Committee are very happy that this new course has received such attention, and has decided that, if necessary, it will be moved to a larger auditorium. Based on the colleagues who have already registered, the Scientific Committee has also noted considerable interest from outside Europe, with more surgeons from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Argentina, USA and Canada having signed up.

Topics to be covered in the course are: selection of fixation type; selection of bearings; benefits and drawbacks of different approaches to the joint; treatment of deformities when inserting implants; diagnostics and treatment of deep infections; treatment of periprosthetic fractures; removal of well-fixed implants; and the presentation of complicated primary and revision cases.
