Upcoming EFORT Congress in Prague: Focus on full-day courses
EFORT is glad to announce that the upcoming 16th EFORT Congress to be held in Prague from 27-29 May 2015 will include once more two major full-day courses to meet the educational needs of the orthopaedic community in Europe and beyond. In accordance with their level of medical training and their topics of interest, participants can benefit either from an overview from the basics or expert advice on joint replacement.
Comprehensive Review Course (CRC)
For the last 6 years, the CRC format has been extremely popular while integrated as a constant component of our EFORT meetings. This complete one-day overview provides the core theoretical knowledge expected of all orthopaedic trainees at the end of their specialty curriculum.
The CRC can also be a good tool to broaden the orthopaedic horizon of a well-established specialist by revalidating essential knowledge in topics not faced in the daily practice. It covers all anatomical areas, as well as basic research, pediatrics and traumatology with up-to-date presentations in several topics:
- Pediatrics
- Basic science
- Reconstruction
- Sports/knee
- Infection
- Tumor
- Spine
- Trauma
The CRC is compactly structured to allow participants to take home the essential knowledge and state-of-the-art information encompassing the whole field of orthopaedics and traumatology in a single day. A manuscript of all the presentations given during this course, a publication of about 200 pages in length, including illustrations and updated references on each topic, will be given to all participants for further study and as an important educational support for the lectures given on-site.
The main target audience for this course is young orthopaedic surgeons and residents in training, but experienced and senior surgeons are welcome to attend the CRC to update their current practices.
Pre-registration is mandatory and space is limited to 120 participants on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Advanced Course in Total Hip & Total Knee Replacement
Judging by all the comments received, the Advanced Course on Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement has achieved great acceptance among our Congress participants as an established element of training. The extremely high attendance and the early interest associated with this course at our two past congresses are other reasons why it will be held again in Prague.
The course will now take place in two parallel rooms with an extended program on the latest approaches to reconstruction of the hip (room 1) and knee (room 2) in adults.
A panel of recognized European experts with a great breadth and depth of experience in total hip and knee replacement will be appointed. Members of the panel will convey their knowledge of key issues in day-to-day practice for both primary and revision surgery.
The aim of the course is to provide younger joint replacement specialists and more experienced senior consultants alike with an update on the latest in techniques and treatments.
Topics to be covered in the course are:
- Selection of fixation type
- Selection of bearings
- Benefits and drawbacks of different approaches to the joint
- Treatment of deformities when inserting implants
- Diagnosis and treatment of deep infections
- Treatment of periprosthetic fractures
- Removal of well-fixed implants
- Presentation of complicated primary and revision cases
This session is directed at confirmed specialists or senior consultants within the area of total hip or knee replacement.
Pre-registration is mandatory and allows participants to attend any of the two full-day parallel sessions on total hip replacement and total knee replacement (unlimited exchange between two running courses).
