Symmetry Medical plant returns to full operation

Issue: April 2014

Following an electrical fire, Symmetry Medical’s manufacturing plant in Sheffield, U.K. has returned to full operational activity.

The fire, which occurred on March 8, took place in its temporary acid shop. Refurbishment, repair and validation work on the temporary acid shop was completed ahead of Symmetry’s original April completion estimate. Outside of a delay of approximately $1 million in revenue between the first and second quarter of 2014, Symmetry expects little financial impact as a result of the fire.

“We are pleased that our team was able to quickly repair the temporary Acid Shop and return our Sheffield manufacturing plant to full operational activity.,” Thomas J. Sullivan, Symmetry Medical’s president and chief executive officer, stated in a company press release. “We have been in close communication with Sheffield customers throughout the process and expect minimal disruption to their orders as a result of our business continuity plan and the relatively short period that the line was out of service.”
