For two years, EFORT has held Interactive Expert Exchange (IEE) sessions during the annual congress. This year five “hot topics” have been selected for the IEE sessions:

  1. Osteochondral lesion of the ankle;
  2. Femoral head size: How to decide?;
  3. The options for the young arthritic knee;
  4. Treatment of bone defects – From Bone cement to bone substitutes, growth factors and stem cells; and
  5. Elbow fracture in the elderly: What is different?

Experts meeting

For each of the five sessions we have engaged experienced surgeons from European leading clinics making sure all aspects within the topic are covered. To promote a direct dialogue and to improve the interactivity with those in the auditorium, each session starts and ends with electronic voting on 10 related questions, followed by 10 minutes of “Current Evidence” within each of the 10 questions.

Next, the audience breaks out in working groups of 25 attendees allows a deep and sharp analysis of the presented medical evidence linked to daily cases faced by all. The discussion is directed by the question “What would YOU do?” and individual input is expected in this part. Finally, each of the working groups presents its comments – and the learning session ends with another vote on the same 10 questions.
