ORLANDO, Fla. — At the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting, Claudette Lajam, MD, discussed a study which reviewed fitness tracking devices and how they could be applied to orthopedic surgery. They analyzed activity tracking, costs, interfaces, locations of device on the body and other features.

She said they found three domains for device use including preoperative orthopedic management, preoperative optimization for surgery and postoperative management. Lajam said if devices are used properly they can enhance orthopedic care.
