EFORT

The Nurse Day at the 17th EFORT Annual Congress provides an exciting opportunity for nurses across Europe to gather and participate in the program while sharing knowledge and skills with their colleagues to improve orthopaedic patients’ experiences. “Focus on the patient care” will be the theme of this 2016 Nurse Day, which will be held Wednesday 1 June.

Primary target attendees

European orthopaedic and trauma nurses and other allied health care providers are best suited to attend 2016 Nurse Day.

Format

The format is that of a comprehensive day course structured in theoretical sessions —symposia and free paper presentations — that take place between 09:00 and 18:30. The aim of the day is to provide a forum in which nurses can showcase their achievements and academic study while sharing their experiences, with a focus on patient care.

Active involvement from the attendees will maximize the benefits of this unique encounter between experienced faculty members, presenters and participants.

Nurses know the safety and quality of the care they give can make all the difference to patients and their families. There are a number of generic, widely recognized indicators of nursing care quality and safety. They include:

  • health care associated infection
  • pressure ulcers
  • falls
  • drug administration errors
  • patient complaints
  • pain
  • constipation.

How these factors are managed reflect high quality nursing care, particularly when such care is delivered with quality interventions. Therefore, we are pleased to announce these factors are central to the Nurse Day program this year.

The program includes sessions on postoperative pain assessment and management, evidence for anti-coagulation drug therapies, constipation risk assessment, urinary tract infection in hip fracture patients, pressure ulcer prevention and peri-operative safety with nurse-led initiatives.

The EFORT Nurse Day encourages Europe-wide orthopaedic nurse collaboration, a broader perspective on patient care issues and amplification of the orthopaedic nursing voice across the continent.

We encourage attendance and believe nurses will find the not only enjoyable, but personally and professionally interesting.
