The success of the Exam of the European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EBOT) is spreading throughout Europe, and even to the rest of the world.

Every year, more applicants are encouraged to take the exam for this prestigious qualification, which is helping ever greater numbers of EBOT fellows progress in their careers. This year’s edition of the prestigious examination was successfully completed by 68 orthopaedic surgeons from 14 countries.

The exam was held 3 and 4 October at the Erasmus Medical Centre, in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, which generously provided the necessary infrastructure. With 101 candidates participating, the pass rate of the test was 67%.

Among EFORT’s important goals is the establishment of uniform and high-quality training standards throughout Europe. The EBOT Exam is an important step in this direction. It is a prestigious qualification accepted by institutions and centers throughout Europe as proof of solid training in orthopaedic surgery, regardless of the country where the candidate originally received his or her training.

The EBOT Exam is taken in two sections. The written part (Section I) is an extensive multiple choice test taken at examining centers throughout Europe by all candidates at the same time, on the same day, usually at the beginning of June. Passing this test is the prerequisite for being admitted to the oral part (Section II) for which candidates and faculty gather each year during the first weekend of October in a European city.

Dates and details for the 2016 EBOT Exam will be available in December 2015.
