Benvenue Medical announces commercial availability of Luna fusion system
Benvenue Medical Inc. recently announced the United States commercial availability of the Luna 3D Interbody Fusion System in conjunction with the North American Spine Society Annual Meeting. The company will also accept the 2015 Spine Technology Award for the Luna in the Minimally Invasive Spine and Thoracolumbar Care categories at the meeting.
The commercial launch follows a limited rollout in which more than 100 patient levels were treated with both minimally invasive and open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) approaches using the Luna 3D system. The system received FDA clearance in November 2014, according to a company release.
The system features a controlled, atraumatic insertion through a 6-mm to 8-mm cannula designed to minimize nerve retraction and mitigate implant migration. It can expand to 25 mm in diameter and up to 13 mm in height once in the disc space. After expansion, bone graft is inserted into the Luna 3D cage, according to the release.
