CyMedica Orthopedics Inc. recently announced it received a CE mark for its QB1 Muscle Activation System, according to a company release.

“Securing the CE mark for the QB1 System marks an important milestone for our company, greatly expanding out market opportunity to patients in Europe, and paving the way for a global sales and distribution network,” President and Chief Executive Officer of CyMedica Orthopedics, Rob Morocco, stated in the release.

The new system can benefit patients who have quadriceps muscle atrophy, which can occur after ACL and total knee replacement surgery. Quadriceps muscle atrophy can significantly slow healing and impact patient activity, potentially leading to delayed rehabilitation and further injury.

According to the company release, the system activates the quadriceps muscles in a clinically relevant manner with little pain. The QB1 incorporates patented technology with a postoperative knee brace to bring rehabilitation therapy into a patient’s home, enabling patient to potentially improve their quadriceps strength faster and more comfortably than with other methods, according to the release.

The QB1 Muscle Activation system received 510(k) clearance in April 2015.
