Capitva Spine has announced its receipt of FDA 510(k) clearance to market an enhanced cervical plate system with a patented screw locking mechanism.

The company’s SmartLOX cervical plate system incorporates a proprietary Nitinol self-locking mechanism, which is designed to provide visual, audible and tactile confirmation of the cervical screw locking, according to a company press release.

The system features large graft / endplate windows to provide better visualization for the surgeon, as well as options for self-tapping, self-drilling, fixed and variable angled screws. The system also features a flush/smooth screw head profile.

According to Dale Mitchell, president and founder of Captiva Spine, the new enhanced screw locking mechanism allows screws to be inserted sequentially, in tandem or independently.
