Safe Orthopaedics recently announced the first use of its new Auto-Adjust pedicle screw in surgical procedures to repair thoracic and lumbar spine fractures.

The Auto-Adjust system has a patented pedicle screw system and is designed to simplify surgical repair of vertebral fractures. The multi-axial screw help position the rods and operates like a fixed-head screw to realign the spine. This system provides gradual and automatic fracture reduction, which is similar to that of a spinal fusion, according to a company press release.

The system is also meant to help facilitate the restoration of sagittal balance.

Auto-Adjust includes single-use instruments and is ready to be used at all times, eliminating delays for surgery. Spinal fractures are mainly caused by trauma and need to be dealt with swiftly, according to the release.

To date, the system has been used in eight operations in France and the Netherlands, two of which were performed using a percutaneous approach.
