Medicrea announces US launch of spinal posterior fixation system

The Medicrea Group announced the U.S. launch of the LigaPass 2.0 Generation, Medicrea’s band connector technology for posterior thoraco-lumbar fixation.

The technology has been cleared for use in adolescent idiopathic and neuromuscular scoliosis patients 10 years of age and older, in addition to adults, according to a company press release.

The new technology provides surgeons with an alternative to screws and hooks that allows for translation and deterioration of vertebral bodies. LigaPass also features an extended range of connectors, a band with a narrower malleable tip to allow for passage underneath the lamina and a dual-band option to allow surgeons to pass two bands underneath the lamina at once, according to the release.

Each LigaPass connector is now universal and can be used with the most common rod diameters on the market. The system offers two new connectors, the LigaPass LP and the LigaPass Open. The LigaPass connector offers capabilities for operation on difficult neuromuscular cases and young, small patients. The LigaPass Open is an open connector that can be inserted onto the road of an already existing construct, according to the release.
