Invibio Biomaterial Solutions recently announced the launch of a new trauma technology platform.

The platform, constructed with the company’s PEEK-OPTIMA ultra-reinforced, metal-free composite, is indicated specifically for high-risk patients who are likely to have a poor prognosis, according to a company press release.

The material is designed to offer a mechanical strength comparable to that offered by metallic plates, but with an extended lifetime compared with metallic plates as a result of a 50-times-greater fatigue resistance, according to the release. Complication risks may also be lessened, due to PEEK-OPTIMA ultra-reinforced composites being biologically inert.

The company also purports the platform offers enhanced visibility for surgeons over other metal-based platforms.

According to the release, results of an ongoing study showed more than 80% of surgeons were able to detect poor fracture alignment in the proximal humerus or distal femur when PEEK-OPTIMA ultra-reinforced composites were used as opposed to 30% when metals were used.
