AJRR acquires CJRR in new affiliation agreement

The American Joint Replacement Registry recently announced an affiliation agreement with the California Joint Replacement Registry.

Effective immediately per the terms of the agreement, The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) now independently owns and manages the California Joint Replacement Registry (CJRR). However, the CJRR will remain a separate entity operating alongside AJRR, according to a press release.

“CJRR brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in collecting and reporting robust, standardized patient-reported outcomes, which we are excited to see integrated into AJRR,” Daniel J. Berry, MD, chair of the AJRR board of directors, said in the release. “This affiliation will help us to provide the best service possible to all participating institutions and surgeons throughout the country.”

The AJRR will also receive a restricted grant from the California HealthCare Foundation, the founder and primary source of funding for the CJRR, to assist in the transition and to keep the CJRR operating independently. The CJRR will also continue its public reporting of patient outcomes in consulting with the California Data Use Group, which will serve as an advisory committee to the CJRR.

The CJRR is populated with data from surgeons serving at 45 different hospitals throughout California, according to the release.

“Since CJRR’s founding in 2009, we have always had the vision that CJRR would become part of the national total joint replacement registry effort when mature,” Kevin Bozic, MD, founding chair of the CJRR and current vice chair of the AJRR, said in the release. “This union will allow AJRR to capitalize on the expertise in measuring patient-reported outcomes that we have developed in California over the past 6 years, and allow Californians to have an impact on the national effort to improve total joint replacement patient outcomes.”
