DISC and Matsuda partner to launch Hip Arthroscopy Center of Excellence

DISC Sports & Spine Center recently announced a partnership with Dean K. Matsuda, MD, to launch the group’s new Hip Arthroscopy Center of Excellence.

“DISC’s desire to build and support a fully dedicated center of excellence for hip arthroscopy is very exciting to me,” Matsuda said in a press release. “As a former athlete myself, I have seen both sides of the scalpel, and it has been my career-long goal to further this area of sports medicine into new levels of patient care.”

Matsuda joins DISC after spending 26 years at Kaiser West Los Angeles Medical Center. During that time he developed and was director of the center’s sports medicine program, was named chief of orthopedics and was honored as the first surgeon of any field to receive the Distinction Merit Award for Surgical Excellence and Innovation. Matsuda also serves as chairman of the Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy program committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

The addition of Matsuda is a significant gain in DISC’s quest to utilize minimally invasive techniques to treat hip injuries, according to Robert S. Bray Jr., founder of DISC.

“With his compelling background of success stories in hip arthroscopy, Dr. Matsuda is ideally positioned to lead this area of growth for us,” Bray said in the release. “His recruitment reaffirms DISC’s commitment to advance the role of minimally invasive surgery into new areas, giving us the ability to serve more complex, high-acuity cases.”
