NASS seeks feedback for new coverage recommendations
The North American Spine Society has released a new coverage recommendation for percutaneous sacroiliac joint fusion and is asking for open feedback during a 30-day public comment period.
The North American Spine Society’s (NASS’) coverage recommendations are developed by a multi-specialty team to advocate for the society’s positions on various clinical and practice issues to ensure quality spine care, according to the NASS website.
The sacroiliac joint is an established source of chronic low back and buttock pain. To correctly diagnose pain arising from the joint, the NASS has recommended that examination include a combination of several provocative maneuvers, as well as a diagnostic block of the joint with local anesthetic to confirm that the pain is originating from the nerve.
The society will accept public feedback on the new recommendations until March 6, 2015, which can be submitted by sending an email to coverage@spine.org.
Comments will be reviewed and considered by the NASS Coverage Committee and, where appropriate, the committee will make edits before publishing the final recommendations.
The new coverage recommendations can be viewed in their entirety here.
