The National Hip Fracture Database has released “My Hip Fracture Care,” a document that includes answers and information based on 12 common questions regarding hip fracture care. It is aimed at patients and their families and caregivers to help educate them on what will happen before, during and after surgery for a hip fracture.

“This book is part of a series of initiatives from the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) team, supported by the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), which has led to significant improved results in this frail population,” Tim Chesser, BOA Trauma Group Chair, stated in a press release from the BOA.

Questions posed in the booklet are answered with relevant information from the latest NHFD annual report.

“Clear communication and accurate information are essential to help parents and families recover from this significant trauma and with its multidisciplinary approach, will help many at a difficult time. We fully support the booklet and work of the National Hip Fracture Database,” Chesser stated.

The BOA noted it supports this new guidance and believes the booklet will help families better understand the injury and their care plan and allow them to make better decisions. According to the release, the organization encourages more patient guidance of this type covering the breadth of orthopaedic surgery.
