Valorem Surgical announces FDA clearance of new spinal fixation system

Valorem Surgical recently announced the receipt of FDA clearance for its minimally invasive MaxiMIS Spinal Fixation System.

The company also announced Jae Lim, MD, a board-certified neurosurgeon, will be the first to use the system in a case.

MaxiMIS will be in limited market release through the end of the first quarter of 2015, but the company is planning for full launch in the second quarter of 2015, according to a press release.

The system is intended for posterior pedicle screw fixation of the non-cervical posterior spine in skeletally mature patients. It is available as a minimally invasive or open-screw system in comprehensive sizes ranging from 4 mm × 25mm to 10 mm × 100 mm, in monoaxial, polyaxial and cannulated variations.

MaxiMIS’ minimally invasive approach is intended to help reduce tissue disruption, blood loss and trauma, according to the release.
