SI-Bone recently announced the Medicare Administrative Contractor, Noridian Healthcare Solutions, began covering minimally invasive surgical sacroiliac joint fusion on Jan. 1, 2015.

This change includes the use of the iFuse Implant System, according to a company press release.

The decision enables more than 9 million Medicare beneficiaries to have access to the iFuse procedure, if it is medically necessary, but applies only to 13 states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

This is the third of eight Medicare Administrative Contractors to establish coverage for the iFuse Implant System in the United States, according to the release.

SI-Bone received 510(k) clearance from the FDA for the iFuse Implant System in November 2008.

The system, designed to decrease implant motion, provide fixation and allow for biological fixation, is a minimally invasive surgical option that uses titanium implants coated with a porous, titanium plasma spray. The system is intended for use in sacroiliac joint fusion for conditions including sacroiliac joint dysfunction, according to the release.
