Synergy Biomedical recently announced it was issued a core patent that broadly covers the use of its Biosphere particles in a variety of bone healing products.

The company’s novel bioactive glass uses spherical particles with a bimodal size range, improving the bone healing response through the optimal release of dissolution ions and particle packing, according to a company release.

With the new patent, Synergy plans to develop new products with improved bone healing that incorporate the particle technology. These will include the Biopshere Sheet (a porous bone graft that becomes flexible when hydrated with blood or bone marrow), and the Biosphere CS (a resorbable calcium sulfate based bone graft that sets into a hardened form), according to the release.
