North American Spine Society names first female president
SAN FRANCISCO — The North American Spine Society announced that physiatrist, Heidi Prather, DO, will be the society’s president for the 2014-2015 term and its first female president, here at the society’s annual conference.
“I am honored to be a leader of the largest multidisciplinary professional society dedicated to assisting spine specialists in providing the best possible care for people with spine disorders,” Prather said in a press release issued by the society.
Prather is currently a professor in and chief of the section for physical medicine and rehabilitation at Washington University School of Medicine in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
In the press release, Prather listed the North American Spine Society’s (NASS’) upcoming initiatives, including the launch of a spine registry, a member distinction program that will track outcomes and identify NASS members who provide evidenced-based spine care, expansion of the society’s influence on policymakers, facilitating research and shaping health care policy via volunteer members’ efforts through timely responses to government and third-party payers regarding coverage.
