DISC, Surgical Care form joint venture for sustainable health care

DISC Sports and Spine Center has formed a joint venture with Surgical Care Affiliates to develop a national model of sustainable health care for the future.

The companies plan to utilize their resources to improve the quality of outpatient surgery, increase accountability and reduce costs to consumers, according to a joint press release.

As of June 30, DISC and Surgical Care Affiliates (SCA) have built a network of 178 surgical affiliates nationwide, including surgery centers, surgical hospitals and hospital surgery departments in 34 states, according to the release.

Under the terms of the joint venture, SCA will become a majority equity partner in DISC and provide daily management, and DISC — accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care for Clinical Excellence — will continue its day-to-day-clinical operations as usual.

“With this strategic alliance, we are creating a sustainable model for quality health care that can be replicated throughout SCA’s extensive national network,” Robert S. Bray Jr., MD, founder of DISC, said in the press release. “From this partnership, physician practices will benefit from greater resources and quality metrics, and patients will benefit from an abundance of choices for affordable, top-quality health care.”
