Ceterix Orthopaedics announced recently the issuance of a new patent for the NovoStitch suture passer.

The NovoStitch is used during the repair of meniscal tears and other soft-tissue joint injuries, according to a company press release. It allows surgeons to place a circumferential compression stitch in the meniscus, which is surrounded by nerves, arteries and cartilage.

According to the press release, NovoStitch can be used in minimally invasive hip and shoulder surgeries, as well.

“This patent adds to our robust property portfolio with more than 160 issued claims now protecting our approach,” John McCutcheon, president and CEO of Ceterix, said in the press release. “These patents are a testament to the innovative nature of our NovoStitch technology now in use at more than 200 centers in the U.S.”
