Need for education increasing among orthopaedic surgeons in Europe

The long-standing tradition whereby orthopaedic surgeons in Europe typically travel abroad once or twice a year for education may be a thing of the past.

In response to the increased attendance at the 15th European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) Congress held in June, Per Kjaersgaard-Andersen, MD, Chief Medical Editor of Orthopaedics Today Europe, discussed in an editorial some of the factors he thinks led some 7,400 orthopaedic surgeons to register for the Congress.

Specialty societies, he said, have contributed to the EFORT Congress program in recent years, which has improved the quality of the educational experience society members and orthopaedists have at the congresses.

“Economic times have changed, and nearby educational opportunities in orthopaedics and traumatology, including the EFORT Congress, have a new appeal,” Kjaersgaard-Andersen said.
