New app launched to reduce throwing injuries in baseball players

Abracadabra Health recently announced the release of Throw Like A Pro, an application to aid baseball players in reducing the likelihood of throwing injuries.

Available in the iTunes App Store, the app contains information from James R. Andrews, MD, and Kevin E. Wilk, PT, DPT, experts on overuse injuries in baseball. If followed as directed, there should be a 60% reduction in overuse-related baseball injuries during the coming years, according to the app’s creators. This reduction would result from the app’s inclusion of a pre-season exercise regimen, an in-season maintenance guide, an age-based pitch counter and rest calculator, and other training and rest recommendations.

“We have seen countless youth and teenage baseball players with elbow injuries,” Wilk said in a press release. “It’s very unfortunate, sad and, in many cases, probably avoidable.”

“In a single day, I completed eight Tommy John surgeries. Two of my patients were major league pitchers, another two pitched for college teams, and four were high schoolers ranging in age from 14 to 17,” Andrews said in the release. “It was a remarkable day because it reminded me how widespread the problem of professional-level injuries has become, even at the teenage level.”
