Expanding Orthopedics has announced the receipt of a Chinese patent for its XPED System, an expandable pedicle screw and related instrumentation.

“The Chinese market is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world with a large concentration of the ageing population (over 65), which is expected to reach 25% of population by the year 2050. EOI is setting itself for the Chinese market by designing and delivering innovative products at an affordable price, to access both the higher and lower ends [of the] Chinese health care markets,” Ofer Bokobza, CEO of Expanding Orthopedics, said in a company press release.

The XPED Pedicle Screw System is a complete spinal implant system including both standard and expandable pedicle screws, as well as all necessary instrumentation for spinal fusion surgery. It is designed for enhanced bone anchoring and improved patient outcome in spinal fusion surgery for a variety of bone conditions, according to the company’s website.
