Orthopedics Today to cover first annual International Extreme Sports Medicine Congress
Orthopedics Today recently announced an exclusive media partnership with the first annual International Extreme Sports Medicine Congress on June 13-14 at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo. The Congress will feature coverage on such topics as injuries in extreme sports, endocrinology-related concerns for the extreme athlete, mental characteristics of the extreme athlete and prevention of injury.
“It is about time we develop and define a new field within sports medicine being adventure sports or extreme sports medicine,” Omer Mei-Dan, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Colorado, said. “I think that we are moving forward across the board into a subspecialty era and there is definitely enough room with the progression and advancement of these sports to have a subspecialty of adventure sports medicine and the related injuries, epidemiology, treatment and return to play of these athletes.”
As a result of the partnership, Orthopedics Today will provide live coverage of the event daily on Healio.com/Orthopedics. Coverage of the International Extreme Sports Medicine Congress will also appear in the July issue of Orthopedics Today.
“We are honored to partner with the University of Colorado, one of the top names in orthopedics, for their inaugural Congress,” Joan-Marie Stiglich, ELS, chief content officer, SLACK Incorporated, publisher of Orthopedics Today, stated in a company press release. “We are thrilled to have been selected as exclusive media partner and look forward to working closely to cover this exciting event live.”
