Pineda receives AANS Humanitarian Award
SAN FRANCISCO – Anselmo Pineda, MD, FAANS(L), was the recipient of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Humanitarian Award, presented here.
Pineda is a retired associate clinical professor of the department of surgery/division of neurosurgery and also the Department of Neurobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles. He founded the Neurosurgical Peruvian American Foundation, which organized the first hands-on neurosurgical training programs in Peru, to participate in the neurosurgical progress in his native country.
“When I became a physician, I challenged myself to become a neurosurgeon, a choice I made following Confucius’ words, ‘Choose a profession you love and you will never work in your life.’ This award endorses that I made the right decision ─ I feel both humbled and proud,” Pineda stated in a press release.”
He was trained in neurosurgery at the University of Chicago and was awarded a fellowship for teaching and investigation by the National Institute of Health to study neurophysiology at Northwestern University. Pineda is the author and presenter of numerous papers in neurosurgery and neurobiology, and is a lifetime fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
