DSM Biomedical and Sayan Orthopaedics Ltd. have entered into a partnership to use a braid made of DSM’s Dyneema Purity fibers to replace stainless steel in a new trauma treatment device from Sayan.
According to a company press release, the braid, which is stronger than steel, can withstand high levels of force, but its small diameter, high pliability and increased flexibility in combination with the device design allows for easier adjustments during implantation. It conforms to the shape of the bone, increasing the contact surface as well as lowering contact pressure.
“This partnership will bring the first orthopedic trauma device using a combination of several Dyneema Purity fibers to the European market,” Carola Hansen, DSM Biomedical’s director of biomedical polyethylenes, stated in a press release. “Our work with Sayan Orthopaedics supports DSM’s ongoing efforts to align with innovative companies from around the world.”
