Surgeon finds hinged knees an alternative to TKA for patients with OA
Knee instability, bone loss, stiffness and post-traumatic deformity are among the indications for a rotating-hinged or pure-hinged prostheses in primary total knee arthroplasty. Thorsten A. Gehrke, MD, and colleagues studied more than 230 cases in which they used hinged knees and found 90% survival after 13 years’ follow-up. In Orthopaedics Today Europe Gehrke discusses the results of this study and how to manage revisions and mitigate complications in these cases.
