Ceterix announces commercial release of new suture passer
Ceterix Orthopedics Inc. announced that its NovoStitch suture passer is available in the US for commercial use.
According to a company press release, the device enables surgeons to place stitches in tight joint compartments during minimally invasive arthroscopic surgical procedures. NovoStitch’s flexibility allows surgeons to avoid removing meniscal tissue and prevent long-term degenerative changes in joints. Additionally, with the device’s ability to compress tears, the use of NovoStitch may give patients’ the option of meniscus repair, rather than the more serious meniscectomy procedure.
“Millions of people undergo arthroscopic procedures in the United States each year. We are excited about the potential for the NovoStitch technology to offer additional choices for surgeons and patients in these procedures, particularly procedures involving knee meniscal tears,” John McCutcheon, chief executive officer and president of Ceterix, stated in a company release. “Our goal is to make meniscectomy less common by providing tools to make repair more feasible.”
