Lanx Inc. announced that orthopedic surgeon Fernando Villamil, MD, has joined its Surgeon Advisory Board and will serve as Lanx Director of Education for Latin America and oversee training initiatives in the region.

Villamil is Chief of the Orthopaedic Spine Service at Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and has extensive experience in treating complex spine conditions. According to a press release, he completed a spine surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School while working at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

“Dr. Villamil’s broad experience in spine care and his work with lateral surgery and other minimally invasive techniques will complement the already immense talent of our Surgeon Advisory Board,” Dan Gladney, Chief Executive Officer of Lanx, stated in the release. “We are excited to welcome him to this new role and to also have him spearhead our education initiatives in Latin America, where we are seeing growing interest in and adoption of our technologies.”
